If any of you play XBox Live, you know you have a profile to let people know who you are. But if you're GLBT, posting your sexual orientation on XBox Live can get you suspended from the game.

Recently, a lesbian playing on XBox was harassed by quite a few other people because her orientation was in her profile.
And XBox, instead of doing something about the harassment, banned her for posting "offensive material".

XBox Live's don't tell policy:

In regards to sexual orientation, for gamertags or profiles we do not allow expression of any type of orientation. Players can, however, self identify in voice communication where context is more easily explained to all players involved.

I don't know about you, but I don't feel that our sexual orientations should be counted as "offensive material".

You can contact XBox live here if you'd like to see something be done:

Meh. Why'd you wanna tell people you are GLBT? I have never seen someone on xbox live telling people they're straight :P

Just don't let it bother you. It doesn't hurt. There are places like this to tell about your sexual oriëntation.

Don't ask, don't tell.

It says no expression of any type of orientation BUT what would happen if you put straight on your profile? Probably nothing. I don't play XBox, so I don't have a clue, I am just making an educated guess lol.

And why does it say "in voice communication where context is more easily explained to all players" ??? Why should someone have to explain the "context" of their orientation? What does that even mean?

It all sounds pretty wierd to me.

XBox lives "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is bullshit. Sorry for the language but you should be able to let people know your sexual orientation through your profile without being banned for offensive material. XBox should look at all the GLBT community and tell them they can't say their orientation. Again this policy is just bullshit that needs to be lifted.
